Truly Out of This World

Since I was young, I was always fascinated with the night sky. Always looking for my favorite constellations, and learning what I could about the planets. I would be lying if I said I didn’t want to be an astronaut when I grew up. Since it didn’t work out for me to go to these distant worlds, I am now bringing them to me. My first target was the Orion Nebula. One of the easier targets to capture, and one that proved to me that I could. The list of targets grows as I explore more of the night sky and I hope to bring as much of that here as I can.

The Orion Nebula

For my first target in deep sky astrophotography, I went to my favorite constellation…Orion! I have always felt drawn to this area of the night sky before I knew this beauty existed. Now that I have the equipment and knowledge, I have brought this Nebula home and look forward to many more sessions with this Deep Sky Object.

Our Galaxy - The Milky Way

For years, I had struggled to capture our galaxy’s core. I had beautiful locations chosen for what would be the “perfect” photo. Unfortunately in this modern world we live in, the light pollution made those “perfect” images non-existent and I had to chase this image in much darker skies. That is exactly what I did! This is the first iteration, and I’m planning many more as I hone my skills with photography and the night sky.

Light Pollution and our Galaxy

This image was captured the next night after my first Milky Way image. The Clouds have a yellow cast from all of the light pollution we as humans throw into the atmosphere. While it does add some different color elements to the photo, it ultimately distorts our view of the sky around us and does environmental harm. As I continue to image the night sky, this type of light pollution saddens me more and more.
